KRISHNA DEVARAYA (1509 - 1539 CE)

Gold Varahen These coins are made of gold and were used during the reign of Krishna Devraya, the former ruler of the Vijayanagara Empire. Obverse: An image of the divine baby Balakrishna is seen seated with one knee bent and resting on the seat. The other leg is raised up supporting the left arm. The right hand holds butter. The child wears ornaments along with a crown of peacock feathers and a string of flowers on his head. Reverse: Three line Nagari legend: Sri pra/tape/krishnaraya is depicted
